Patent for industrial invention: Application method for building-integrated photovoltaic modules
Patent number: 102015000061983
Patent filing date: 15 October 2015
Inventors: Nebojsa Jakica, Alessandra Zanelli
Applicant: Politecnico di Milano
TIFAIN Diamond module is designed as tillable in multiple directions so it can form various types of regular quadrilateral patterns. In a combination with the different module options and curvature, number of unique solutions adopted to specific urban conditions are unlimited.
There is no better way to start boosting creativity. And building performance.
The new TIFAIN Diamond facade module is designed with a performance in mind. Optical concepts of light reflection, transmission and absorption are carefully studied to enable performance-based design. Passive and active concepts both benefit from sinusoidal shape of the core.
Aesthetic as well.
High-performance facades include many concepts for increasing user comfort and overall building energy performance. A new design methodology used in TIFAIN Diamond facade carefully balance all requirements and assign them importance according to the facade profile.
This concept represents a breakthrough for creating (Nearly) Zero Energy Buildings.
Advanced performance simulations are essential to assess complex high-performance facades. For a layout optimization of the TIFAIN Facade Diamond, powerful state-of-the-art raytracing software is used to perform daylighting simulations, energy yield generation and visualization.
Variation of the angle settings from vertical to 50 degrees angle inclination can improve PV potential of up to 50%. That means less PV cells needed for the same energy output of standard vertically placed flat BIPV modules. Moreover, It means more transparency and light to feel the interior. This chart shows PV potential for different modules and orientation and the improvement over the baseline for every direction. Created performance database is used during a design phase to bring real-time response on performance for a smooth design process.
