Nebojsa Jakica is currently post-doc researcher at Politecnico di Milano in Italy. His PhD “Performance-Based Architectural Design, Simulation and Optimisation of Complex BIPV Façades” covers multidisciplinary areas of Building-Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV), façade design, daylighting, PV energy yield, whole building energy simulation and user-interactive optimization. Particular focus is given to the integration of simulations and optimizations in the parametric design processes and tools for achieving Zero Energy Buildings. His PhD was closely integrated within a nationally funded project TIFAIN on application of 3rd generation Photovoltaics DSSC and complex profiled glass tiles to form a high-performance facade. As an outcome of this research, he co-authored two patents with Prof. Alessandra Zanelli in the field of BIPV: one for community design application and other for industrial invention: Application method for building-integrated photovoltaic modules (pending). This work was nominated for prestigious MIT Technology Review – Innovators Under 35, Italian edition Award.
Nebojsa is actively involved in teaching activities at Polimi where he teaches advanced digital design and sustainability on bachelor and master courses lead by Prof. Alessandra Zanelli and Prof. Carol Monticelli. He has published and presented his research on many prestigious conferences and journals across fields of architecture, architectural engineering and photovoltaics such as Advanced Building Skins, Energy Rating and Module Performance Modeling Workshop, EU PVSEC, IBPC, IASS, TENSINET Symposium, Renewable and Sustainable Energy Reviews Journal. He is currently a leader of the International Energy Agency (IEA) Photovoltaics Power Systems (PVPS) Task 15, Subtask E.5 on Design and Performance of BIPV and a member of international associations Tensinet, IASS, ACADIA, CIB, IBPSA.
During his studies, he worked as an architect and a consultant for BIM and parametric modeling, sustainable architecture at Vittorio Grassi Architetto and Partners. Together with the leading building design and engineering practices such as ARUP, Buro Happold, schlaich bergermann und partner, Populous, Ai Engineering and F&M Ingegneria, he has actively contributed in winning many international competitions worldwide like Vigorelli stadium in Milan, Italy, Military City of Ceccighnola in Rome, Italy, Sports Hall in Lamezia Terme, Italy, Olonkholand Complex in Yakutsk, Russia and Masterplan in Samara, Russia. He is also winner of many national (Serbia) and international (Italy) study grants and scholarships.
